Mixed Farm Project - Wakiso District
A diversified farming operation combining coffee, maize, and poultry on secured land in Uganda's central farming belt.
This project puts member capital to work on a working farm in Wakiso district, already under lease and in production. Rather than betting on a single crop, the farm deliberately mixes three income streams so that a bad season for one doesn't sink the whole operation.
Three Income Streams
- Coffee - a cash crop with established export demand, generating the farm's longest-term value.
- Maize - a fast-turnaround food crop sold into local and regional markets.
- Poultry (broilers and layers) - the shortest cash cycle of the three, providing income between harvests.
Where Capital Goes
New member capital is earmarked for irrigation infrastructure, quality seedlings and inputs, and expanded poultry housing - all aimed at increasing yield per acre rather than acquiring new land.
Why the Club Is Investing
Diversification across crop types and harvest cycles is the core risk control here: poultry income smooths the gaps between the coffee and maize harvests, and existing off-take relationships with local aggregators and coffee exporters reduce the club's exposure to spot-market price swings.
